So four days ago i opened the chicken pen in the morning and all but the one Sussex bantam came out. I looked in and she was sat on the floor awkwardly, then she tried to move but she had a lot of difficulty standing on her right leg. I shut her off in her run and removed everything but a padded corner for her to sit in. She did not appear to be in any stress or pain, I tried to get her to eat her laying pellets and mixed corn but she refused (she still drank fine). I eventually found that she still ate canned sweetcorn and some other odd foods like small amounts of mashed potato.

At first i assumed that this could be because she slipped of the perch in the night or had got bumble-foot somehow, But i checked her and found no odd lumps or irregular swelling or problems with the whole leg. (she can still lift her leg and it appears exactly the same as her left leg)

I then thought she might just have hurt it badly and it would recover soon. However it has been four days and her condition has not changed. I was just checking up on her a few moments ago when i noticed that the area below her vent was very large and squashy almost like a small bean bag (I was comparing her to my pekins so this might be normal? I don't often get to check her body because she does not like being picked up) . She also has a strange white/brown liquid coming from her vent (diarrhea?) . This was here before first day she was limping but it only just occurred to me these two things might be connected as occasionally one of our chickens can get diarrhea for short periods of time.

She has spent the last few days out in the garden with my family. But she will only sit where we put her and she refuses to move unless it is absolutely necessary.

Notes:
Our local vets do not have any chicken specialists that we know of.
Our Sussex is nine years old.
She usually eats layers pellets and mixed corn
She is free range within our garden

Thanks in advance :)
