Chicken with neck problem

Mine love eggs! If your girl does too, then try sprinkling the crushed B Vitamins on top and mixing the E in the eggs - she probably won't notice:)

Oh....don't leave the others out, let them have a separate bowl of eggs, they would like a nice treat too;)

I'll do that, thank you so much! Oh, they'll make sure they're not left out!

I am following along as you’ve already gotten great advice. I have a soft spot in my heart for australorps.

I agree though, that it sounds like wry neck.
Two questions:
How old is Bibby?
And did you add any birds to your flock this spring?

So do I, she is my only one but I am adding more soon!

Bibby is 2 years old.
I hatched chicks from my own flock this year, but I haven't added any chickens from any outside sources.

Wry neck treatment suggests no more than 25mcg of selenium, but it doesn't indicate what the strength of the Vitamin E is in that supplement you posted. You would probably be safer to just use a straight vitamin E 400iu capsule and shave a sliver off a selenium tablet.

I believe Bibby will improve, but if it's genetic, she may need treatment again from time to time. If it turns out to be a crop disorder, that too can be symptomatic of another problem.

I have had favorite chickens that I knew had an incurable underlying problem, but as long as they were behaving normally in every other aspect, I would treat the symptoms to extend their lives. At the first sign of decline, though, I would watch for that moment when they needed to be euthanized to prevent acute suffering.

Sorry she is not well. Recently I had two chicks with what looked like wry neck so I gave them shots of the cattle B complex and both were 100% better in two hours.

I also had two chicks with way looked like "crazy chick disease", those were treated with vitamin E and recovered in two days.

I guess if I had a full grown hen do this I would give her a shot of the complex once a day and a vitamin e gel capsule.

Selenium is good too, but it is toxic if too much is given, so I think I would skip that.

Thank you!
I am running out to pick up some vitamin B and E right now. I pray it works!!
For Selenium I'll just treat her with eggs!

I'm not picking up that exact bottle of vitamin E supplement, that was just an example.
I really hope she improves. I just checked on her a couple of minutes ago, and she is foraging with the other girls.
If she doesn't improve, though, I would rather euthanize than to see her suffer.

Carol, I have always seen it as 25 mcg (micro grams) instead of mg (milligrams).
25mg would equal 25000mcg, so from what I understand you only want a very small amount of Selenium.

The following link is one of the most commonly used references, but I have seen it mentioned other places as well.

Yeah, just give her eggs to meet the selenium need.

I know how toxic selenium can be. At the Calif. state park I retired from and was required to live at in state housing, we were discouraged from drinking the well water which tapped into the water table beside the Colorado River and had such high selenium, it hurt my eyes when I had to shower in it. They bought us bottled water to drink.
