Chicken with red mites and not moving - Urgent

Go to your TSC and get a permethrin based poultry dust or spray. Treat her and all your hens. Treat the coop.

DE is not going to be effective against and infestation.

For me, I would use Dust on the chickens and buy the Concentrate to treat the housing, don't forget roosting bars. Put the dust in a sock or pantyhose, bob or tap the sock on the chicken, making sure to get the dust up underneath the feathers. Around the vent, under wings, etc.

While you're at TSC, pick up a few packs of Sav A Chick electrolytes. Mix it up with cool water and provide that to your flock and your sick hen.

Syringe fluids into the hen that is not doing well. Fluids, fluids, fluids, once she's hydrated then offer wet feed.

Keep in mind, just going by the info you provided. She may have more than one thing going on but getting rid of the mites and getting her hydrated are the first things that need to be done.
Thank you for the detailed response. I did get permethrin and applied to her. And i did pick up Electrolytics and my kids are feeding her the water.

How many days we need to keep her on fluids? I was planning on giving her scrambled egg later in the day..is that a good idea to offer or just keep giving fluids for a day or two?

I think you just need to be sure she is not dehydrated.

So I would think scrambled egg would be fine, and a dish of her normal chicken food with water added until it's thoroughly soggy, and make sure she keeps getting fluids. (I don't know how long you'll have to keep forcing fluids-- she may start drinking, and if she eats wet feed that will provide some water too.)

Even if she's not actively drinking, I would leave a water dish available in case she wants to start. And even if she's not eating, I would probably leave a dish of her normal dry chicken food sitting in the corner, so if she decides to eat it she can.

When an animal is not feeling well, sometimes they will only eat special foods (scrambled egg, wet food). But sometimes they will only eat the normal food (maybe they fear that anything new will make them feel worse?) I cannot predict which animal will go which way, so that's why I would provide some "special" food and also the usual food.

If you've been pushing fluids all day, then offer her some wet feed, a little scrambled egg or something and see if she will eat on her own. Encourage her drink on her own as well.

Is she more alert now?
