After reading some old posts I believe my hen has a sinus infection, or at least some sort of blockage. She does not have a runny nose or runny eyes. But she has a bump under her eye kind of at the corner of her beak. It looked as thou it was going to go away for a while and now it is there again. I purchased some tetracycline to treat her with and have read that i should put 1 1/2 tsp in a gallon of water. She has been with the other chickens all along and no one but her has an issue. The first time I noticed it was a few weeks ago and it looked as though it was going away but now its back. I thought at first she might have something lodged in the corner of her beak since the lump is quite hard not soft like something infected. I still am not sure its not. She has been eating and drinking fine, but today she seems out of sort and I need to take some action. Since it started to go away at first I had hoped she would recover from this without any antibiotics but apparently that is not going to happen. I have not checked the vet but I am guessing a vet call will be 100 bucks, which I do not have.
I would like to leave her in with the others since if she had something they could catch they would have by now, but I am wondering how to treat her. Can I put a few drops of the mixture in her mouth? I would not squirt it in but use a dropper. Or can I maybe mix some of the water with the med in it with some yogurt, which I know she will eat up right away.
I really dont want to treat every one and I have considered just seperating her for an hour in the morning since she seems to drink right after she gets off the roost.. I found the dosage on another posting so that was really helpful.
It just seems that there is no way to see to it she gets the correct dosage. Any ideas?
