This morning one of my hens seems to have developed some swelling on the right side over her eye.

Here’s the eye that appears swollen, it almost gives her a furrowed brow look.

As opposed to the left side which looks essentially normal.
There is no apparent discharge or foam, and her eye is not currently swollen shut, and as far as I’ve seen there’s no sneezing or other noticeable respiratory issues. Could this be the beginnings of something major or is it just a response to a tick bite or something along those lines?

Watch for other symptoms, such as oozing / bubbling from the eye and sneezing or coughing. Sometimes respiratory issues present themselves through the eye. But if she seems fine, I would chalk it up to maybe being pecked or just general irritation, maybe a piece of grass or something. You can purchase terramycin at tractor supply, we had a cockerel get into a fight with another cockerel and his eye was swollen shut for day. I put some of that on it and he was opening his eye the next day.

Thank you for the response, I will definitely keep an eye on her to see if things get worse, and thanks for the relief. If I can get terramycin I’ll also make sure to try that out on her.
