MY chicken got a swollen eye and im not sure what it could be theres a bump?lump? above the eye and the eye is watery and swollen ,ive been thinking it was avian pox but now im not sure.I think it might be contagious because one of my two other chickens have it now to.I have a large pen with thirty chickens in it i have raised these chickens since my broody hens hatched them from eggs ,im also new to all of this.My questions are what is it? how do i cure and get rid of it? also i am trying to keep the chickens eye clean and have separated the chickens that i have seen with it.

will Vetericyn Opthalmic help i need something fast curing as i do not want it to spread to my other chickens
 
I've never quite figured out how/why this comes to be, but I've had this happen to a few of my chickens before. It is certainly not fun to deal with.
This is what I have learned: If left alone, it can spread to the other eye, and - also if left untreated - the chicken will/can go permanently blind in whatever eye (or eyes) is infected. :(

Quarantine her if you haven't already. Make sure she has plenty of food and water available. The most effective thing that I have used on the infected eye(s) is Colloidal Silver. I apply it to the inflamed area (it doesn't matter if it gets into the eye, it will actually help more if it does) multiple times per day. Also I think it helps to give the chicken plain yogurt mixed with a little bit of apple cider vinegar 2x a day.
Usually after the first day of putting Colloidal Silver on the eye the inflammation goes down pretty quickly. Within 5 days my Easter Egger hen (my latest swollen-eye patient) looked almost completely normal. And she had had it badly!! Colloidal Silver is amazing. :)

Thankyou so much,I will buy that as soon as possible for now I will keep it cleaned up.I have to ask you will the Colloidal Silver help my chicken that has it on its beak the other two have it on there eye?I also have to ask if it is contagious?
 
What is Sovereign Silver?I saw this also when looking for colloidal silver
 
Huh, now I'm thinking that your chickens have fowl pox. :) Mine have had it, and although it is a separate thing from the swollen eye, I treated them the same way. They will recover from it (fowl pox) but they might lose some weight from not being able to see clearly to eat. And if it is indeed fowl pox, it is not REALLY urgent to treat it, as, like I said, they will get over it in time (with maybe a few scars ;)).

I'm guessing that it will run through your flock unfortunately. And yes, you can put the Colloidal Silver on the one chicken's beak.
