Can you advise me on something
@Wyorp Rock? I know your advice is in high demand, so no worries if not.
When this happened, back in 2022, and after reading many similar threads on here, I saw that Neosporin (plain) could be used in place of this ophthalmic ointment I had on hand. I think it’s called Triple Antibiotic HC ointment, idk if that’s the official name or not, I do know it was prescribed by our vet for a dog eye infection. In fact, I later asked our vet if Neosporin could be used in place of this ointment, also, since I had seen that here and she said yes. So Ive always thought it was A-okay to use for eyes. But today, someone here told me Neosporin can cause eye issues and it shouldn’t be used on eyes in any species. So I looked into it and indeed the brand Neosporin is advising not to use in eyes. I had no idea. As far as I can tell from researching, it’s due to the neomycin ingredient. But I’ve looked at Neosporin ingredients and they appear to actually be the almost the same as this ophthalmic ointment, which also contains neomycin (aside from this ointment containing a hydrocortisone ingredient). So now I’m confused, is Neosporin really bad for eyes, or is that one of those warnings that’s exaggerated a bit? What is your opinion? I feel like I would still be okay using Neosporin on any of our animals’ eyes. I just can’t fathom some company would specifically put neomycin in an ophthalmic ointment if it was truly an eye irritant.
