Chicken with Week Old Gash in Side- ADVICE PLEASE

Keep in mind we just applied Neosporin which is why it's so shiny and goopy. Beforehand, it was dry. I assume the yellow that can be seen on the muscle is fat, but I'm not sure.
It would be good to cut the feathers around the gash so they will not get into the wound and disturb the healing process..
 
For anyone stumbling across this post later on- the gash healed up wonderfully! All we did was treat with penicillin for 3 days and put on Neosporin as well. She's back with the flock doing great!
