Chicken with weird grey thing in beak

I have a chicken, she is around seven years old, and i noticed a weird grey thing in her mouth. It almost looks like its growing on the inside of her beak If anyone knows what this is, please let me know. Thank you!

How does her beak smell? Have you tried to remove the material with a piece of paper towel or QTip? Sometime canker, a protozoan infection can affect the inside of the beak. It usually smells bad. A fungus (thrush) could also be the problem, wet fowl pox, or even cancer might be affecting her. Do you see any yellow material? Here is some reading about canker:

I tried removing it with a Q-tip, but it doesn't seem to be something that can move. There is no yellow stuff and it doesn't smell bad.

I would watch it and see if it changes or grows. You might try adding some acidified copper sulfate to her water for a few days 1/4 tsp per gallon of water. It is sold here:

Thyme extract is used by some to treat canker.
