May I ask, what is Valbazen?   I have never heard of it before. Is it a chemical, or what?

Unfortunately, yes, chemical wormers are what you need to treat an infestation of worms.

Or tips on the best place to buy?
Maybe I'll just have to buy that ridiculously huge bottle online again because my local feed store isn't even familiar with this product.

In the meantime I'm putting some crushed garlic in their water tomorrow.

Anyone have good luck with that? Susan Burek recommends it. ..

Oh yeah & thanks for the diatomaceous earth tip too. I've had it mixed in their feed the past month or two. I don't know if it's helping, but it's certainly not hurting them.

You're welcome! DE has been proven to work for internal parasites in Vancouver, but has been unsuccessful in the US, so it is still questionable. However, at its worst, it does nothing for internal parasites, but is great to put into their dust bathing box, as it treats external pests like mites. Just make sure your DE is food grade!

Careful with the DE though. It's an indiscriminate killer. Fine if you're keeping your coop and run clean like you'd keep a rabbit hutch or indoor bird cage clean, but if you like having an ecosystem in your coop and run then it'll be of no benefit.

Valbazen's active ingredient is albendazole, which you might be able to find on the shelf as part of a preparation for other animals. Check the small print on the label, it should be written somewhere.

I've read a couple of articles written by vets that say it can irritate their respiratory system.

pumpkin seeds are good. when chemicals didn't kill all the worms I chopped some pumpkin seeds and the next day found some dead worms in chicken's poop. garlic, cayenne pepper and black pepper are good, too. I mix them all with their feed.
