Hey Everyone! It has been and always will be my goal to pretty up my chicken yard with plants/bushes/trees/grasses etc. But as we all know to well the chickens almost always end up uprooting them. I have found that they don't mess with Easter lilies or rosemary and I was looking to see what other people had success growing in there chicken yards. Thanks ahead of time!

My soil is what was left behind by a glacier at the end of the last ice age. It's essentially sandy clay packed with fist-sized rocks. I have found that if I put a couple of those rocks at the base of my newly planted plants, the chickens don't dig them up.

Also, although we've only been doing chickens for a year, our girls haven't bothered coreopsis, echinacea, bee balm, mint, or geraniums. I don't trust them a bit around the vegetables, though! They're fenced out until fall clean-up time.

(Just as a funny aside, we have a VERY curious barred rock named Amelia. We have to be extremely careful when digging, as she will jump in the hole to look for tasty treats while we're still swinging the shovel.
