Chicken Yard Improvement Ideas

Just a bit more info that space is 5' deep, 8' long and 7' tall on the left and 5' tall to the deck on the right.

@lazy gardener I'm on the edge of 6/7 for a plant hardness zone.

Does that area get any sun? Any issues with extra moisture/growing mildew/algae/moss?

My thought was to build an open-topped box out of the rocks (probably mortared in place) and use it for compost. Since it is out of the weather you would have to water it which means you could control moisture levels. The chickens would love scratching in it.

The only issue I can see with that lack of overhead space would be emptying it when you wanted the compost. You might have to get creative with some type of clean-out.

It's on the North side of my house so little direct sun except for in the morning it gets a bit.

Stays pretty dry under there except when it rains.

Got a little done on the first retaining wall. Started carrying my imported from Arkansas stone from where they were to here to see how they can be incorporated for the side walls. A picture is starting to form in my mind how I'll do the retaining walls. I'll start the second one in front of the sewer clean out and cut it down to just below the top of the retaining wall and put one of my Arkansas stones over it.
