** edited to say that I see the brand names of the coops that they sell now and was able to do a search of the forums using the OverEZ brand. Took me a minute to get there, but I think I'm caught up. 😳🤭🙃🙂

Has anyone ordered from or used a coop from ChickenCoopHQ.com? Their coops are expensive but look really well made. Looking for a smaller coop to house four Silkies. If not, any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to BYC.

Don't believe ANY coop manufacturer on how many chickens it can house.

Rules of Thumb
  • If it looks like a dollhouse it's only suitable for toy chickens.
  • If it's measured in inches instead of feet it's too small.
  • If your walk-in closet is larger than the coop-run combo you're thinking of buying think carefully about whether you have an utterly awesome closet or are looking at a seriously undersized chicken coop.
  • If it has more nestboxes than the number of chickens it can legitimately hold the designer knew nothing about chickens' actual needs and it probably has other design flaws too.

The Usual Guidelines

For each adult, standard-sized hen you need:
  • 4 square feet in the coop,
  • 10 square feet in the run,
  • 1 linear foot of roost,
  • 1/4 of a nest box,
  • And 1 square foot of permanent, 24/7/365 ventilation, preferably located over the birds' heads when they're sitting on the roost.

I dont see any coops pop up when I search for ChickenCoopHQ on youtube. Youtube is my go to place to look for information on such a product. We built a custom coop using free plans from simplesuburbanliving.com

EZ coops are way better option of coops offered commercially than the pre fab coop. They are pricey though. And would need more ventilation for modification.

You could make your own with your specifications to your complete liking. Perhaps with less money spent.

ChickenCoopHQ.Com seem like a middle man to sell EZ coops. Or maybe extension of the company to channel in more sales.

I agree, IdyllwildAcres. I was looking for a temporary coop because I have four baby silkies that I hope to be able to integrate with my flock of big girls. I built the big girls’ coop and was hoping to find a smaller coop that I could just put into the big run while seeing if integration would work out.
Ultimately, I bought a coop on Craigslist that someone had started building and I will modify it for security and usability. In the end, it made more sense to get something that would be permanent in case integration won’t work, and if it does, I’ll have an extra little coop for quarantine, brooder, etc.
Thanks, everyone for the input!
