Dave, we went to Sam’s club and built it from pallets. Free is nice. We used old plywood from a shelving project in the basement. If you’re handy it’ll come together pretty easily.Hi,
I’m ChickenDave, a newly retired mechanical engineer who is planning on raising about 10 chickens for eggs.
I’m looking at 6 Rhode Island Reds and 4 Aracauna or Ameraucana (I like blue eggs).
Right now I’m looking for DIY coop designs. I have lots of room so space is not a consideration.
Any help or ideas are appreciated.
If anyone can recommend a good book with lots of cool design ideas, I would be most grateful.
Thanks!
Chicken Dave
Tips for whatever you build: use hardware wire not poultry wire. Raise it off the ground, consider a solar door (love mine), allow for ventilation and plenty of light, allow room for storage of tools and food, rodent proof it.
Have fun, they are so cute.
