chickens act as if they are cold.

So they might still be suffering from worms if you haven't treated but once (if they actually had worms before and you weren't just treating prophylactically). This would explain why they appear cold. Mine do too when they have roundworms. I mention this because mine still don't look like they feel like themselves after worming either. Or maybe the worming is so hard on therm that it is taking awhile to recover. I don't know.

Edited to add: I am not saying you should worm every 30 days. I sure wouldn't do it every 30 days, lol. I only worm once a year. But generally here on BYC people say that they should be wormed once more to break the cycle. There are numerous threads on it.

I hope this helps.

This time of year molt is rapping up. Until molt complete, insulatory value of feathers is reduced making 40 F seem a bit cool for them. Mine also puff up, seek out sunny locations that are protected from wind. As temperatures drop further feed intake will increase. My birds during winter will eat between 2 and 3 times as much on cold windy days as they do on thermally neutral days when temperatures are in 60's and 70's.
