I decided that I needed to start putting all my photos in one place. I have been keeping chickens since January, a couple pullets and hatching, chicken math was passed around April when I put the duck eggs into incubate, and mastered when I got keets and geese.
So from the beginning:
These are the first chickens I got, all from the same lady Mid December. The whites and one brown brahma died within a week.
This is the first chick I hatched Jan 5, 2019 in my home made incubator, name of Pouncer, I got these eggs add a back yard mix from Kijiji.
It was a delayed hatch, some showing up 4 days later with yolk still hanging out, about the size of a dime. I applied iodine to the yolk 2x daily and it dried up within 1wk.
In their big brooder, a gutted bathroom, in my bsmt in January -30*C outside.
The second batch of eggs I attempted to incubate in my new larger home made incubator. Hatch rates were disappointing 10/40, but I really learned the importance of restraint and patience when assisting a hatch, and letting temps high enough while not too hot. Also a barnyard mix.
Hatched beginning of February.
This is the first batch same time, Pouncer is the grey one.
These are my two silkies that were also in my basement this winter. Bought these two with the first batch of adults.
2nd batch of babies in their brooder, it is a converted closet. This corner of my basement became very chickeny. Still -30*C outside, quite the cold snap we were having.
Side note: Feb 15 is when I got pigs.
Looking back on these photos really shows me how much they've grown.
