I was wondering if you can put a couple ducks in with your chicken flock?

I have a friend that has chickens, turkeys, geese, ducks and rabbits all together in the same run/coop area. It's quite a sight, but they all seem to get along quite well. All different breeds and ages.

It depends really. A drake with an attitude can severely injure a chicken. Not an issue if you only have girl ducks. You'll need to do something different with the water, putting it on a screen floor or over a gravel bed, because they'll throw it in a 3ft radius when they play in it. My 5 ducks went through 3 gallons of water a day.

Flies are attracted to the dampness that ducks create. Lot's of flies, if you don't have anywhere for the water to go. The care is more tedious than for a chicken. I ended up selling my ducks for the sake of my neighbors (demanding female ducks are LOUD) and my work schedule picked up and reduced the time I had available for cleaning pools and runs. They need access to water deep enough to bathe in regularly, for the health of their oil gland. It can clog up and get infected. A concrete mixing tub or small baby pool is enough.

They're not as friendly as chickens, unless you spend A LOT of time with them, consistently. But they're hilarious to watch, we did get a lot of enjoyment out of them.

Go cruise around the duck forum, a lot of info on it in that area. Lot's of coop ideas too.
