Chickens and Gardens

Does anyone let their birds run through the garden for bug control? Will they eat the whole garden?

Yes I do. No they won't.

They will peck at the tomatoes, but won't eat the leaves. They will scratch the dirt looking for worms and bugs.

I don't let mine in the garden during the active season. Chickens are destructive and even the things they don't eat, they'll rip up anyway, just to try them, or they'll scratch and dig them up, or stomp them, or crap on them. So I only let my chickens in the garden in the off season, up until I start planting my annuals or the perennials I care about leaf out. And the chickens still surprise me. After years of ignoring my garlic, this past spring they attacked it like it was candy and ate it almost down to the ground! Nothing is safe around them...
