I have my 9 month old pullets living in a reconditioned old shed. The 3 previous years there has a been a groundhog living underneath it.

The chicken run is built over one of the old exit holes of the groundhog. Last summer I caved it in and covered it over.

I noticed today that the groundhog has burrowed out from under the shed and has a hole in the run again. I've blocked it up with rocks for the time being.

Question: Are groundhogs dangerous to chickens? I really don't want to harm the animal but I don't want any carnage involving the girls as well.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

i posted a similar question a while ago. We ended up buying rodent bombs and doing away with him and everyone says they are vegitarians but i know what they can do if they feel threatened. You wont get anywhere filling in the hole. Bomb him, shoot him or trap him, chances are he is not alone.
