Chickens and old christmas trees

Has anyone ever taken their christmas tree down after the holidays and put it in their chicken's yard? My sister-in-law suggested this idea because her family use to put their tree in with their pheasants. Just curious to anyone's thoughts or experience with this suggestion.

I used to put the old Christmas tree in the pen with the ringneck pheasants. It now goes by the bird feeder to provide a hiding place from the Coopers hawks.
