chickens and rain--TOTAL NOOB QUESTION

Thanks for all the wisdom, peeps! And @7L Farm, fellow thirsty Texan, I'll believe it when i see it. At this point I would have no problem wrangling muddy chickens if it meant I could re-learn what rain smells like.

but yeah, 40% storm chance on Wednesday. *does tiny rain dance*

It will take alot of rain to make mud here.LOL I will do a rain dance. It should cool us off some as well.

I know the feeling. The last time we got rain was Feb 16. I got my chicks on Feb 23 and we haven't got a drop since (it did rain at Wal Mart 2.5 miles away 2 weeks ago, but nothing at all at my home!!!!). I'm seeing 50-60% forecasted for Wednesday. We plan on opening up the coop as usual that morning. There's cover in the run and if they get scared, they can come back into the coop if they want. Since my coop door is in the back of a horse stall in the barn, we've been opening up that side as well lately and they seem to spend the hot part of the day in the horse stall and go out in the run in the mornings and evenings.

Sigh.... Another parched Texan here. My pastures are absolutely crunchy, soon there won't even be anything left to crunch. It's so frustrating to watch the rain skirt past us when it DOES rain somewhere. I am really, really, really hoping we get some over the next couple of days. Unless the winds are high and gusty with lots of rain and lightening, I will leave the coop door and windows open. I'll have to wrap a tarp around the outdoor brooder unless it gets super bad, then I'll be out there trying to catch 18 little turds to take them into the shed and the indoor brooder till it passes. One thing about Texas is that the storms don't last long at all.......

Friend calls & tells me there's a big fire coming my way I live in Grimes Co. I noticed big clouds that looked like rain I was hoping but no it was smoke. I did dodge the bullet thank god for that but others didn't. I think some 30 houses burned & 4000 acres WOW!!! I guess I need to turn the TV on every once in awhile. I sure am praying & dancing for that rain. Wish it would have came yesterday. The dang wind has been blowing forever here.
