chickens and rain

Mine stay out and get soaked... It's gross. They look like anorexic possums. But really, it's not bad for them unless you have an Orpington, who's feathers shouldn't get wet for health reasons.

Orps shouldn't get their feathers wet? Uhhhhh... how come?

My BO isn't as fond of the rain as my other chickens, and tends to stay inside when it rains, but she has been out and about in the rain many times.

I never heard that. Huh.

My BO goes out and gets soaked as much or more as the other girls. She looks like a poorly wrung out rag mop when she comes in. I gave them some warm cream of wheat and locked them in their run. At least it's half covered and they *might* have a chance to dry off a little before bedtime.

Well I have a 100 watt spot light in the coop to extend the days so my girls will lay better. it does keep the coop a little warmer.
