Chickens and snow

I added a "sunroom" to my coop, because I gave up on mine ever liking the snow. I have a metal roof and built the walls out of old windows. It is not perfectly tight, but it keeps the snow off the dirt and the wind and rain off the girls. Some still choose to free range, but at least they all get out of the coop and get a little air. I am really happy I did it. I couldn't stand the idea of them being inside all winter...

I tried the fabric over the door, but I have one reallllllyyyy dumb duck who was freaked out by it. Wouldn't go in or out just stood there and screamed like she was being murdered. Even holding it up for a few days so it wasn't blockign didn't help she still screamed.

Nice to have a room outdoors where they stay dry, eh?

Chickens in snow make for paths & poop . . . .

Right now, mine won't venture out. They don't even seem to enjoy seeing it fall but they've got a view from their porch. That is, their own porch on the coop.

Had to take an old hair dryer out and defrost the door so that it could be closed. There was 1/2 inch of ice on the coop door frame.

Pop door is open and works fine but it is tiny - barely room for the big girls to squeeze in and out.
