Chickens are my theraphy

Three hens and they're complaining, I'm truly sorry 😔. I hope you can get them listed as therapy animals. I wish people had a heart towards their neighbors. What's wrong with them ....
They’re unreasonable type of neighbors. They would slam their door as soon as they hear me and my husband in our backyard. We were going to say hello to them and introduce ourselves when we just moved in. My husband called them also and left a message to meet with them when we just moved in. But they never called us back. One of our neighbor to one side of us told us that they once asked them to share the cost of replacing a fence that they share. But they said NO to it. They’re that type of neighbor.

Not quite the same situation, but when my folks wanted to move us to some property to have horses, we sort of had to go through the same thing. Several neighbors were adamantly against us getting zoned for horses, and their reasons were pretty much in the category of "uneducated fear". Like their toddler getting in the horse fence and getting trampled. Smell and flies. My parents worked to make the farm a place where the kids were welcome to come hang out with the animals with adult supervision, and educated people about horses. And how, no, horses do not generally hunt down toddlers for sport. (I've known a few...)

Would going the educational route be beneficial to you? Bring some eggs, perhaps? Or perhaps go with bantam chickens who would be happier in a smaller area? The seramas are quite tiny and might thrive in the run you have.
My husband thought of bantham chickens or seramas. Ive thought of going and meeting them as well. But their actions showed that they have no interest in getting to know us. The previous owner who lived hear for 20 years never met them.

Have you consider button quail? They live indoors and make super cute pets. At least that's what I understand and I'll be getting some soon.
I did try quails. We ordered eggs and tried to hatch them. Only 2 hatched. But one tried to mate the other and ended up killing her. So that was that. Also even though I raised the quail from day 1, held them a lot, it wasn’t friendly at all.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with quail. I've watched many a video of people holding cuddly quail. What kind of quail were they? Buttons are less aggressive than some others.

@GeraldineDbird

I raise Seramas and bantam Silkies. Seramas can be good fliers, but they prefer the ground. A trio of bantam Silkies sounds like a good fit for you. The noise would be minimal (in my opinion). All of my hens are fairly quiet except for their cute little egg songs. And, if you’re hands-on with them from a young age, they’ll likely be very friendly. Both breeds have calm temperaments. 🙂

Sounds like they shouldn't be living in a neighborhood 😞, I'm so sorry

Oh no, hopefully I'll have a better experience.

What did your therapist say?
My therapist suggested getting ducks and try that out. I told her thats more work compared to chickens. Having a water source in the backyard will create new problems I think like mosquitoes and such. So I told her ducks wouldn’t work. Then she suggested getting a parrot. I didn’t want that either. I had a conure that was very cuddly but nibbled a lot and destroyed everything she can get her beak into. I also tried a parrotlet, very small bird that learned to speak. He became so dependent on me that she would scream all the time. It became unbearable. My family and I took a weekend trip and we had my father in law watch our bird. Our bird got sick after we got him back - he actually lost some of his feathers when we picked him up. Then after a week he died. Something happened but we can never know now.
