I have 7 hens and one was broody about a week ago (which I didn't want). When I separated her, the others were still laying eggs but once I put my broody hen back in the coop after her broody stage had stopped, the others started to stop laying eggs! I went from 6 eggs a day, to only two eggs a day! Does anyone know what is going on??? They started laying only two eggs a day about two days ago, the day after I put my hen back in the coop. I am new to all this so I have no idea why they aren't laying.

go to the "Raising Backyard chickens," forum - side tabs will appear on the right. Scroll down to chicken behaviors & egglaying thread and post your question there.

Do the other girls appear to be molting at all - that can stop the laying process. OR maybe they got broody notions in their chicken brains. Hopefully the egglaying thread can come up with more reasons

No, their not molting. I will put my question on the egg laying threads. Thank you

Welcome to BYC!

Hens can stop laying for a lot of reasons. But a pretty sudden stop like you have could be something simple like the weather. Did it turn really hot or really cold all of a sudden this past week? That will cause a slow down in the egg production. If this is the case, you will have to wait it out. But I would definitely follow the link that Kelsie has provided to Why My Chickens Are Not Laying. Maybe you can glean some info from that thread. You can even ask questions there as well.

Good luck with your hens and I hope the eggs start being laid again soon!

Thank you everyone! I found out that the reason they were not laying was because they could not see my house with my new shed in the way. Once I moved it, they all started to lay their eggs. They must of felt weird laying eggs and not seeing what they normally would see.

Things that stress out the hens will keep them from laying. Hens need to feel all is safe and if they became scared of a new shed in the way, this can stress them enough to stop laying. Great that they are back in lay!
