Well...that's tricky... He doesn't set out to...but if the others start and he happens to be in the midst of it, he'll toss a peck or two as well. But there are times that Bashful, the one being picked on, will run to him when getting picked on and he won't peck. I should mention that it's really just two of the girls that do the picking...the other one could care less what goes on around her...she's in her own little world. Is the rooster picking on the same hen as the others?
Not reallyIs the rooster picking on the same hen as the others?
None of them go all Lizzie Borden on her or anything. They co-mingle at times with no issues...then one gets a bug up her ass and starts...then the other chimes in. Bashful is quite quick and an expert escape artist though...so she eludes them when they get their gotchies all in a bunch.Ok. If the rooster was actively pecking her that would lead me to believe that she has a defect that he doesn’t want in his offsprings’.
It doesn't matter how long a victim has been in a flock. I have a six-year old hen that has been with the flock since she was a baby chick and recently she started to become a victim of bullying by a couple of one and two-year olds. They were chasing her away from the feeders and she was losing a lot of weight. But this has been going on a long time.
But can I stop it and I do have some cover for her.Maybe add some cover for her to make it harder for the other birds to pursue her.
I’ve never dealt with this situation before so I don’t know how to proceed. @azygous any ideas? But can I stop it and I do have some cover for her.
