I think that was the most surprising thing, when I started with my first chicks. I mean, yeah, I'll name 'em (I can't not) but I got all different breeds because I didn't think I'd be able to tell them apart if they were, say, all RIRs. I could see myself on my back porch, greeting them: "Good morning, Rhoda!" "How are you today, Rhoda?" "Lookin' good, Rhoda girl!" "'Mornin', Rhoda!" and four more times.....
But even my duplicate breeds (yes, that happened) are not difficult to tell apart. Each chicken has its own personality. I never expected that at all. Chickens? Ha!
I love 'em. They're not just egg-laying, bug-eating, fertilizer-producing creatures; they are silly things with quirks and different things to say (I have a few gossips who catch me up on the events of the day) and an amazing repertoire of behaviors and vocalizations.
