Did your chicken ever open her eyes? I have a 3 week chick who was attacked very minorly and has been in shock for the last 4 hours - still has to yet to open her yes but she seems to be starting to move around very slowly.

Henny Penny was attacked by a dog 11 days ago. I thought the dog had killed her as she was laying motionless on the grass. I was shouting at the dog owner that her dog had killed our hen. When I turned round there was just a pile of feathers on the ground where Henny Penny had been laying. When I looked a little further I could see Henny Penny walking around in circles. I went to her and noticed blood spots on each side of her head and her eyes were pure white. I researched and it must of been the membrane. Henny Penny was carried back to her house, she was panting with beak open. We fed her water by syringe for 3 days after and got her out of her house each day, but she just kept panting and not venturing very far at all. After 3 days she starting pecking the ground and moving about although she was keeping a distance from our other 2 hens. She is now opening her eyes 1/4 way, but she must be able to see as she is finding her way back to her house each evening and is also going near the other two hens. Our hens have a 3 acre free space including woods. She is feeding and drinking well. We very nearly put her out of her misery the 2nd day as we felt so sorry for her. Just so glad we didn't as she is well on the way to recovery. She is talking to us when we go near her and apart from her eyes not opening fully looks well. I have responded to this site so that I can give hope to others who think there chickens may be blind. I think Henny Penny was in serious shock. The dog owner did apologise, she was visiting a nearby stable block and didn't have her dog on a lead and the dog ventured onto our land.

Today when we opened the chicken house to let our 3 hens roam Henny Penny opened her eyes fully. Today she is roaming and sticking close to her two friends and seems nearly back to her normal lovable self. We are so relieved. We have a dog but always make sure it is securely on a lead if chickens or any wildlife are about. The dog owner has not come near us since this happened.

One of my guineas was attacked by something and has the same thing going on what was the outcome? Did she ever open her eyes again? Never mind I saw the last post

She still wont open her eyes. She has drank water thirstily a couple of times this morning. I have gotten a little more yogurt and some mushed up breakfast cereal that they usually go crazy over. The wound that I though was a punture either sealed up completely or was more of a scratch. It is more on her face an inch or so below her eyes. There is some dried blood there and I wiped it gently and her lid pulled down. That is on her right side. I can see that her eye is fine. It looks around, but the lid closes right up. Do you think it is a muscle issue? If she never opens her eyes again can she live a normal life? A great suprise...I was holding her, wrapped in a towel, to feed her and an egg came - splat to the ground. The shell was fully intact...it was a little thin because it cracked and usually my girls eggs are hard enough that my dd's can accidently drop them on the ground and they are no worse for wear. It has been about 21 hours since attack - is the egg a good sign? or was it probably already formed and ready to be layed prior to the attack and just got delayed? I have no way of telling wether she had already layed yesterday with 24...used to be 25 girls

. Thanks again to those who have given advice and to any future advice offered. I really appreciate it!
I know this was 11 years ago but did your chicken ever open her eyes? I have one that got attacked yesterday with small wounds on her body but I'm mostly worried that she's blind as she won't open her eyes.
