Chickens attacked

Birds generally don't get rabies - there have been a couple experiments where they've managed to give it to them - but they tend to do a good job fighting it off and aren't symptomatic - and don't transmit it.

So I wouldn't worry about rabies.
 
Thank you all for your responses. I read that article and that's a huge help. This really stinks! I've had backyard chickens for over two years now and it's our first incident.
 
Weird! Same thing happened last night with mine, one silkie hen died, and one tail of the silkie roo got pulled off. I feel like he was trying to help the little silkie hen. It turned out that it was oppossum, and we killed it. Hope this helps! It is really sad...
