chickens bottom and belly is swollen with fluid

I am wondering if this is because she has an impacted egg? I washed her bottom with warm soapy water and she is just laying there possibly trying to pass something. I have to leave for work, but i will be checking for replies on my phone, any advice or experience would be helpful. thanks bryan

Poor hen. If it feels like fluid, you might want to do a search on ascites on the BYC forum to see if her symptoms match the descriptions.

I dont mean to be alarming, but I had a meat bird do this and he died. Never could figure out what happened. I hope someone is able to help you!!

She may be laying internally or perhaps is egg bound. If her abdomen is not too large, you may be able to feel the egg gently from the outside (although not if it been crushed internally). At times they will "poop" what appears to be egg - that is exactly what it is. If you think it may help, consider checking her vent for an egg.
