hello there who ever im talking to ive just started getting some chickens and every one reckons to give them oyster shells but i was wondering if you could crush up like nuts shells and sea shells any help would help. oh and also not to sure on how much laying pellets to feed them per day, i have 14 chooks they are freerange being let out after 12:00 and also get a bucket of food scrapes about 4-5 times a weeks id love it if you could help.

I am newer to chickenas well but from what I understand the oyster shells are calcium and chicken need that so there shells are harder but you give chickens grit to hel digest food and I think you can give nuts for that but I might be wrong

. I think peanuts wouldn't work as a substitute for oyster but sea shells may. They really need that extra calcium to help prevent some laying issues,

Hi and :welcome

Crushed shells would do. :)
Also, crushed egg shells can do a similar job. Just collect their eggs, eat them, and reuse the shells.

If they free range, a few cups of food should be fine (not sure about precise measurements, we use a large spoon to ladle out the pellets, and our 3 chickens eat about one and a half spoons a day. They free range too)

Good luck! I hope you find all the info you need here. :D
