Chickens commuting to work?

Thanks, all for the input. This is Vermont, so I'm willing to take the chances on the location. Most folks in the community garden have said things like "great chicken tractor" (they knew what it was) or have otherwise been supportive. The garden is fenced in, and the tractor will be inside the fence, although it is not locked. I am more worried about predators, because the garden is at a nature center along a river (prime predator territory). That is why they are commuters.

I have a large dog crate with a good thick cushion of straw, on a bicycle trailer. They complain a bit when I put them in the crate, but they are quiet on the road and they don't seem nervous when I take them out.

So, anyhow, it is an experiment!
