When it comes down to it, we will all go to any lengths for someone or something we love. Be it our child, parent, dog, cat, hamster or even, our chicken.

Nothing wrong with that

We are in Michigan too and our chickens also stayed out in yesterday's rain. They got under bushes and trees, but they never seem to like to spend any more time than necessary in the hen house. They don't seem to mind getting wet. I figure as long as a dry place (the hen house) is available, I let them do what they want.

You have to be a little careful with young-uns, though. I had some in the run that I couldn't prod back inside one rainy evening, and I decided, "Fine--They'll go in when they're cold." Nope. They hadn't figured coming indoors out well enough (They'd only been out 2 evenings previously) and I was devastated and felt horribly guilty the next day to find 3 dead in the run. Since then, we've made the cover on the run removable so we can rescue chickens more easily in the future.

I think my hens just stayed in their new run all night avoiding the new coop. How do I get them to go in the coop at night, they seem scared of it?

I was told that saying comes from people throwing water on a broody hen to try and break her up. (Or maybe throwing her into water.) Either way, she'd be pretty ticked.
