Chickens + Dogs =

I let my chickens and my miniature schnauzers out together for the first time tis weekend. They all did great. My EE's ran from the dogs but my dogs chased like it was a game and soon lost interest. My big girls BR advanced on the dogs and my dogs are now afraid of them. Yea!!!

I don't have toworry if my dogs get out while the chickens are. Mind you I will still watch, but I think my dogs are not going to hurt my chickens. I do think the big girls might peck my dogs' eyes out if they get a chance.

Thats good news. I have an 8month old rottie pup who could care less about the chickens. He just lays down in the middle of them while they are free ranging. I'll take some pictures of it one of these days.

All 4 of my dogs have gotten use to the chickens with time. At first they wanted to "play" with them and chase them, but after some reprimands and a few sharp pecks they leave them alone.

My lab mix could care less. If she sees me going outside and putting on my shoes she runs for the coop as she knows that's probably where I'm going.

I actually have to watch her around the bator. If I open it near her she wants to lick all the eggs and any newly hatched babies. Scared she's going to contaminate them.

She does NOT like them sitting on her and they stay their distance from her.

Here's one time I MADE her pose with one of the Showgirls. She acted like she was dying. Note the ears back.
