Chickens don't lay in winter

:welcome :frow :thSorry for your loss. I'm sure for whatever reason it was time for her to go. Often times the reasons aren't apparent. It's part of having poultry, sometime you may loose one for no apparent reason but I'm sure you tried to help her. Yesterday when I went out to collect eggs, I found a dead hen in a coop. There was no apparent reason why she died. She was of good weight and when I checked the birds earlier I never noticed anything wrong, all of the birds looked fine. We just at times have no idea. My birds all have a good life and are well cared for. Why she died is a mystery. I wish you well with the rest of your flock. Good luck...

I have some birds molting right now and some in a pretty significant molt. Lots of pin feathers coming in. I was actually a bit surprised because most of the birds molted 2/3 months ago. but lately there have been more feathers on the ground in their pens and coops. Some of my birds have stopped laying but I have some pullets that recently started laying and my White Leghorns rarely don't lay. Even when they molt they still lay surprisingly.
