I have a flock of 11 chickens and four ducks that we free range and we have two Catahoula dogs. We have a five year old female that does not have a problem with them but we have a four month old male puppy who just killed one of our chickens. I am not sure what to do, I hate keeping the chickens and ducks locked up (which is what we are currently doing) and I do not want to lock up the puppy. I know that training is a option but I know that a lot of effort has to go in and it takes time. Does anyone know a quicker way that I get everyone living out in the yard again happily.

Yep. Keep them separated. (Which doesn't mean the birds have to stay locked up 24/7.) 4 months is still a baby puppy. You are also dealing with a "hard headed" HUNTING breed. (Former Catahoula owner here. LOVE them!)
Work with the puppy on a long line when the birds are loose. An E collar is an option with an older dog that KNOWS the birds are "off limits" but does what it wants anyway. (The "screw you" attitude most young dogs have as "teenagers".) But IMO, on a puppy it is just cruel as they don't KNOW the "rules" yet.

Nothing could be simpler!

Take the puppy's collar and a standard leash. Take the collar off Pup, and put the collar through the leash handle. Then, buckle the collar back around Pup's neck.

Now, the leash and collar are one.

Next, take the clip at the end of the leash, and clip it to the belt loop of your jeans. Done! Problem solved! And not just the chicken-chasing ones, all of them! See, Pup can't chase, piddle, chew, dash off or disobey while he's never more than 6 feet from you and attached. What's more, training becomes second nature. You're going to talk to and have hands on that dog all day and by the time he's a year, you'll have a dog that's bonded to you tight as superglue and you'd swear understands english better than your kids.
