I was looking around craigslist and saw an ad wanting chickens so they have something to eat their slugs? I don't know about anyone else's chickens, but mine don't touch the slugs. So are mine spoiled or do chickens in general just not eat slugs?

mine love slugs. I have the chickens around my garden and my lettuce is slug free thanks to them. Maybe you just have better bugs than i do and mine have to settle for the slugs

Mine- No way No how. They let the slugs eat their pellets.

I tried showing them a toad once, but the toad went on the defensive side and I could see the poison coming out of its glands

Luckily, my girls knew not to eat it.

Surprisingly, some people just buy chickens for their ability to get rid of unwanted pets. Besides slugs, I know a guy who bought chickens to get rid of his earwig problem. Now, he has no earwigs, but he has a wild flock of chickens on his acreage

. They slowly stopped caring for them over the years, and now the chickens are almost completely wild. They roost in his trees, and he says he has to "thin them out" each year, because almost every hen will raise her own brood of 6-10 chicks.

Definately different from most backyard chicken owners, to him they are more agricultural then actual pets.

Ours like the slugs first thing in the morning when they are all freshly covered in dew. But after that - they won't touch the "old" things!

These are common garden toads.

I figured, but it's still good to know

We like to keep them around our tomatoes. Such cute little creatures

Yeah, I like them too, even have little toad houses to encourage them to stay..yes far from my chickens. They are a great benefit to gardens.
I feel bad when they get one.
