Chickens eating Lizards???

I was surprised, too, to see my chickens actually corner my cat, who had a mouse--- they literally stole it from her. The nice thing is I no longer have mice laying on the doorstep from my cats!

I've been letting my pullets out to free range a bit in the evening. My little NHR has caught baby lizards 2 nights in a row to eat. She is the carnivorous hunter of my group. A little concerned at first but is doing fine.

I live in Florida and we are overrun with lizards. I actually have a 5 gallon bucket half filled with water and normally catch at least one to two a day in it (they do float and live). I throw the lizard into the run and watch the chase. Sometimes the lizards get away other times not so lucky.

On the rat and mouse topic I was somewhat suprised when I saw my three new three month old pullets chasing each other around the yard with a dead baby rat about two and a half inches long without the tail. I don’t know if they caught and killed it or if it they found another predators meal.

I was concerned at first due to disease these vermin may carry but I was told not to worry about it by a neighbor who has had chickens for years and he mentioned his hens get ahold of wild vermin occasionally and his girls are fine.
