Chickens eating my house insulation

My chickens like to eat polystyrene...it damages my house insulation...why do they do that?...are they hungry? because i give them alot of food with all necessary for them+ they are all free in my backyard, is that polystyrene harmfull for them? (I have seen sparrows doing that as well)

Styrene is only weakly toxic, with an LD50 of 500-5000 mg/kg (rats).[1][8]. The US EPA has described styrene as "a suspected carcinogen" and "a suspected toxin to the gastrointestinal, kidney, and respiratory systems, among others."[9][10] this is copied from wiki .
