Some of our chickens have started pecking off the paint inside the coop. We painted it with animal safe paint when we built it last summer. Should we be very concerned? We’re thinking we should probably scrape off the rest of the paint?
There is a product available from Benjamin Moore that is made to stop existing paint from peeling and flaking in food prep areas. There are probably a few other manufacturers as well. If memory serves me correctly I think it is called PeelStop. Way easier then trying to strip the paint.
It's probably not harmful, but it is annoying. My flock was eating the paint on the outside of the coop, so I put screws in each corner post and stretched stiff bird netting over the bottom couple of feet - they don't like trying to put their beaks through it, and left the paint alone after that.
