Hi guys, my younger hens that I got in May have been sneakily eating some of the pine shavings off the floor. Is it okay for them to eat shavings, I see them eat the straw some times too.

When I first brought my pullets home, they were eating what I thought was an alarming amount of pine shavings. Especially when I changed the shavings! Luckily they seemed to grow out of it after a month or two, and none of them showed any negative symptoms. So I bet your girls will be fine.

They have free choice grit and oyster shell for adult chickens. They don't seem to eat much of the grit, I think because its winter and they're eating mainly feed.
