I need to know what I can do to stop my chix from eating their eggs. I have 8 hens and they all lay at different times of day so it is impossible to collect them everytime one of them lays. I do have a job and all. This just started about a week ago and as soon as one of them is about to lay, the rest of them start to act like voltures circling a dead zebra. I mean they will eat them all if I dont get in there right away. HELP!!!!!

do a search on here - there's lots of posts dealing with this, and it CAN be fixed, so don't feel like you have to cull all your hens. The very best thing is collecting often - I had the problem and I work, too; I ended up asking a neighbor to help.

It can be due to a lack of protein: I addressed this by feeding cooked meat (I used hot dogs and ground beef) mixed with their feed.

It often begins with plain old boredom - this time of year, they spend more time inside. Give them things to do - I use a Purina Flock Block, and suet feeders stuffed with nutritious greens like collard greens or mustard greens, and hang it so that they have to work to get it out.

You can try putting "curtains" on your nest box openings...sometimes, "out of sight, out of mind".

You need to address it ASAP...the longer they go eating eggs, the more of a habit it becomes.

BEST of luck!! By doing all of the above, I was able to get mine to stop and haven't had a problem since (over a year). BEST of luck to you!
