I have a Black jersey Giant pullet that is a little over 2 months old.
she was in a grow out pen with several other pullets since they were chicks. no body else has any issue like this. all the other pullets that were with her are very healthy. this chicken I been noticing it wasn't growing like the others, the others were developing way faster. right now my other black jersey giant is twice her size and begging to develop a red comb.
she is very small, boney and her feet started to look terrible the scales were pealing right off, the toe nails were reddish black. I thought of the possibility of scaly leg mites, so I treated her over and over with no success, her condition is gotten terrible she isn't growing feathers like she should be. and now her feet have pretty much lost all the scales and the toes and nails are black and dead. her toes are hard as rocks like petrified wood. and the rest of her foot that isn't dead is raw, reddish purple and occasionally lightly pussy. she was never exposed to frost bite, or dirty bedding, I kept them on pine shavings and cleaned out daily.
The strange thing is her legs are fine this is only on her feet.
unfortunately I think I going to euthanize her tomorrow because her feet are causing her lots of pain and I don't want her to suffer her hole foot falling off.
she has been standing ok, eating, drinking and her poop is normal. so I am so clueless on what the heck is wrong with her. I was worried she had some sort of bad disease that would kill the rest of my birds too but nobody else has had symptoms or is currently showing any of these problems. I been checking all there feet everyday and I treated everyone for scaly leg mite just incase but everyone else is doing very well.
has anyone else had this problem, im wondering if she has some sort of vascular problem were she not receiving blood flow to her feet..
