Chickens fighting for roost position

Thanks for this thread. Very helpful! I'm late to this party, but would still love to see the video if possible. When I clicked on it I got a message that it is marked private.

Wow. A blast from the past. I switched the video back to public. Enjoy.

Thanks so much! That was hysterical... and exactly what our girls do!

I hope to get two Bantams next spring. It will be interesting to see what they add to the party.

Anyone ever seen a flock dismiss a hen to roost? I have a flock of four, all 5 months (different breeds) sent together and raised together. My one hen "Piper" a buckeye, isn't allowed or is too scared to go to roost with the other more dominant hens. When you put her up there at night, she's fine and is there in the morning... I'm not sure what to do, not sure if she has an injury and can't go to roost (seems not interested in jumping up) but she's definitely the odd chick out... They don't peck her or anything, she just stays out of the way. Any help would be appreciated!!!

How big is your roost?...a foot of roost space each is good.
Can she get up there...maybe isolate her in the coop and see if she will go up?
Could just be pecking order....or an access problem.

Pics of your coop and roost area might help someone spot and issue.

Maybe it's a Buckeye thing. I have some that are 7-8 months old that still rather huddling in a pile than roosting. I wouldn't worry too much about her.

Thanks, maybe that's the case! She also doesn't have a normal chirp like the other ones... Almost a low pitch squeak growl deal... She's super sweet and affectionate!!! Just hope she isn't sick, I started them on Tylan for three days just incase...
