She is absolutely lovely!!! What a pretty chicken! If you can fence her off inside the coop, I'd go ahead. It would still give her time with the youngster without the other hens sticking their nosy beaks into it. If you want to move her, it doesn't matter if you move her with the chick inside the shell or outside the shell...I've done both and it works out just fine.

Next time she goes broody? Load that hen up! Get more babies for all that brooding....

Seems like a good place to ask my question. In process of building coop and then get about 4-6 hens for fresh eggs to eat. Wife has been on board but now says she will not eat them unless we put them in the frig. She also says She will not let them go into the frig unless then have been cleaned first.
I told her I would ask the experts on how to "clean" the eggs so they can go in the frig. Remember she has made up her mind on this so help me out on the correct way to clean them.

The most I've ever had to do to clean them was to simply wipe them off lightly with a dish cloth. Maybe if they are dirty, use a warm damp cloth.

Wash them with running water warmer than the egg is. Plain water is all that really is needed. If she is freaked out about germs (there are none - no part of the egg ever touches the bowel) then go to Eggcartons.com and get their egg washer compound or get some Oxine. It will end up making the eggs cost a lot more than they ever should and be totally not needed, though.

PS - and if any do have poo on them, then just break them and feed them to the hens! It's good for them and they'll love it. And it will not make egg eaters out of them no matter what anyone says.

She wants them clean as in no germs or salmonella on the outside of the egg.

where have you been getting eggs? does she think those are up to her standards?

Research the trends and new laws in EU the last couple of years and the way they market their eggs,,,,once the eggs are washed and the bloom is removed that's when the problems begin,,,,the USDA is actually reviewing the results of the EU testing and there are rumors of revising the egg marketing requirements in the US (most likely never happen due to the way eggs are warehoused and the games played with date stamps)

I use a damp micro-fiber towel on the dirty spots and the eggs are never refrigerated here, I tell all of my customers and explain why,,,,don't think I've lost a sale yet,,,,,,

just sayin'
