I love that you did that. It really sounded like they enjoyed the flock!

I, too, love that you called her. This forum is truly a community, and I'm so happy to have found it and get to share in the joy of someone in another part of the country getting chickens, or curing their chickens, or keeping their chickens, or even culling their chickens! I hope you steered them to BYC, and in particular, this thread!

As long as Fred is cutting and hauling, I have two wood burners. One in the basement, and one in the medical chicken coop. My DH wants to put all the baby ducks in that coop and burn wood for winter to keep them warm as long as we will be getting free wood.

That is just heartwarming! Thank you for sharing it - and I am so glad you had your camera handy!

Awwww! That is so very sweet! I think Bruce has a cross beaked hen that kept trying to adopt his meaties even though they were way out of the chick stage, so he let her and they are all a big happy family.

Don't you just love it when animals display seeming compassion? My dog Jake is like that and is getting worse as he ages..big softy mush pot!

Some talk a few pages back about heated dog dishes. I got a cheap one from walmart. I don't want the birds to have an easy time pooping in their water, so I attached a cheap twist on quart waterer:

Great idea!!! I currently have a plastic bowl full of water in the heated dog bowl & today it was tipped over I am sure from the hens sitting on it. I am going to def try this idea. Thanks !!
