ok now i am down right p'od . freaken possums again. just killed 2 of them . now another one got one of biggest cx meaties. they always get the big ones. this was a 6lb'er. everybody is staying in the coop for a while. they need to retrained where to lay anyway. dang it am p.o'ed
so i refreshed the coop with pine shavings so they should be comfy. next i will sit around the area with a .22 and have a bounty on their hide. i will also get every boy and adult male to come pee around the coop.

Some talk a few pages back about heated dog dishes. I got a cheap one from walmart. I don't want the birds to have an easy time pooping in their water, so I attached a cheap twist on quart waterer:

Great idea!!!  I currently have a plastic bowl full of water in the heated dog bowl & today it was tipped over I am sure from the hens sitting on it. I am going to def try this idea. Thanks !!

Since there is metal holding the water container, how does that affect you ACV ?

bee i need something. i have 2 mastiffs. they are great during the day at night though they suck. the cats got the last one and one of them took a hit to the face. poor boy. this thing ate the side out of the cx. peed me off. the bird made it to the coop door and bing bang boom. dead at the door. when i catch this one i am hanging it on the fence with a sign saying " mess with the birds and you will be next.". i have one problem , i don't speak possum.

Maybe you could talk to Barbara the Deer Lady...she seems to know something about animals and what signs they can read:

hmm, I don't know, it just started getting cold a few days ago so I only just started using that. I figured since the metal part comes from a standard quart waterer, it's something lots of people are using, so I didn't think it would be a problem.

I mix ACV at about one tablespoon per gallon of water.

Do I need to search out one of the red plastic bottoms and substitute it? They didn't have those at the feed store nearest to me.

Bee, I just love this! I heard it a few weeks ago. DH came into the room as I was sitting here giggling and laughing out loud. He asked me what was so funny, so I played it for him. This is a man who doesn't show much, but he sure laughed at this one.

Deer Lady: Did you listen to part 2? She finally realized what she said and felt so stupid. She appreciated how kind the radio announcers were to her. I chuckled too and give credit to the radio guys for keeping their composure. I think I felt a kinship with her as sometimes I feel pretty stupid myself after I realize how dumb what I've said is.

I have possums too. We caught two of them (two nights in a row) in a live wire trap using tuna a bait. I put the trap right beside the coop. I used the trap simply because I'm too lazy to sit out all night with the .22 (I probably would have fallen asleep anyway). I haven't seen any lately, but if I'm out doing chores and have to 'go", I "go" behind the chicken coop (don't know if that does any good, though seeing as how I'm a girl).

I am seriously thinking about trying the tennis balls soaked in ammonia. Haven't tried it, but it's been suggested a couple of times. Ammonia is cheap enough, and the tennis balls would be a one time investment (for a while, anyway).
