I'm just wondering: since hens slow down or stop laying altogether when the fall/winter hours bring reduced daylight ...does that delay the onset of the first lay with pullets? Mine are 21 wks. and of course I am anxiously waiting for my first egg.
My 4 pullets are 26 weeks old & still no eggs

But being Partridge Rocks I was told heritage breeds lay later. Sooooooo I am hopeful for at least one egg before the snow flies. But I do have to say in the last 2 weeks 2 of my hens seem huge in size & one of them has darkened in color. These 2 almost seem as big as the hens we saw at the NYS fair so I am guessing they are getting close. My other 2 are a lot smaller but acting healthy so maybe they were born after the bigger 2.

Lets hope all of ours start laying before we start trapsing through snow neighbor

Just an update on my hen Sweet Sally and her adopted chick...both are pretty content today. Still marvel that a hen who has never been broody would take on another hen's chick....

Oh Lord, that may be the most precious picture I've seen in ... ever! Is there anything as adept as a chicken at proving the pure joy of life? I think not.
