Contrary to popular BYC misinformation and lore on the Foo-Foo hugger threads it doesn't hurt a bird one iota to hold them upside down and they calm much quicker when you do so, and much easier to handle. I often times handle several birds in one hand at a time upsidedown when shuffling pens and moving birds, to heck with babysitting them one at a time to transfer them, regardless of age or breed, I work with my birds not play with them. Your doing well good job.

How in the world would one dust a bird's vent area without that bird being held by the legs, head down? If I want to hold a hen to show one of the grand kids, I'll hold a hen so they can see it upright and enjoy it. But when just moving or loading some birds, it's by the ankles, two, three in each hand and done with the whole deal. I've never seen one choke yet, but hey, I'm just a rookie, so I'm open to reading a few of the recommended books on How To Keep Chickens and learning stuff. Could happen. Probably not tonight though.. I saw a couple such books on a rack at the Farm store the other day. Looked pretty nifty to me. They couldn't print such a book if it weren't all true, right?

I should probably get one. I feel kind of bad never having read one of them.

I think it's horribly irresponsible of all the OTs to promote such a dangerous practice.

OMG I almost pee ed myself I laughed so hard. I can remember the first time I read that on here. I actually wondered about why I had not killed any chickens while hanging them upside down doing exams and transports. Shoot if it is that easy I should not have to slit throats and bleed out till after they died. I have hung chickens in the tree till I went and gathered more. Sometimes when the kids were young you get interrupted and the chickens have hung out for quite a while. I have even came back and no chicken hanging in the tree. That was funny.and .kind of creeped me out. I actually left the chicken be.

And imagine the awful trama that poor sweet girl must go through being held by the legs OMG

you terrible people. Now she has be to taken to the vet and evaluated for any physical harm then taken to a chicken whisperer for proper mental analysis, god forbid she grows up with a complex I just couldn't forgive myself. Ok so now I feel bad so I am heading into the kitchen for a few hours to cook and prepare a fresh treat for them and take it to them asap as a peace offering. i hope they come out of the little birdy house thing in the morning.
