Chickens for almost a year.. first massacre yesterday. :(

Animal bites almost always get infected. You should have antibiotics on hand for this and other inevitable problems.

I do have a large dog kennel and could keep her in it on the screened porch. Wonder if it's worth it?

Wash her rear gently with warm water. Pat dry. Smear a few teaspoons of honey on the wounds and isolate her in the dog kennel with treats and sugar water.
Honey is a natural antibiotic. Add more as needed. Or at least once a day.
Isolate her due to blood. Even redness the other birds may pick at :(

Hens are hardy...give her somewhere clean to rest for a few days. Hopefully she'll recover well :)
Good point, WC.. No abx here though.

I had a chicken get attacked by an eagle (nasty bacteria filled carrion eaters) i just washed out her wounds as best as I could, I think I used a little Hydrogen Peroxide, but no anti-biotics.

I then sewed up the one giant flap of skin with regular thread soaked in vodka. The deep puncture wound, I left alone.

I then put her in a safe location with food and water in front of her. She was almost motionless for three days, but ate and drank some...then fully recovered.

Thank you SO much, everyone. Butt is washed, I got out what very few maggots I could scrape (vent is FULL of them), then sprayed with Hydrogen peroxide and then with strong salt water.. patted dry, slathered all with honey, and now she is in her kennel on the back porch with sugar water, a bowl of food and her very own Doberguardian. ;)

She has sang a little song a couple times, pooped and has a towel nest to lie on. So fingers crossed. She is essentially TOTALLY plucked from underneath the tail forward to wings.

We use it and it works wonders without worry of over medicating and most people have honey in the cupboard somewhere (it never ever spoils) when they can't get medications.
I know it sux :( but next time you inspect her (i'd let her rest a bit) try to get as many maggots out as possible.

If she's cooing or making noises that are soft its a good thing. They have a will to survive even when absolutely everything wants to eat them!

Fingers crossed for a quick recovery, she'll be more active and begging to play in a few days, mine hate not being able to dust bathe when in chicken hospital :)
Angelicisi- have all of that here and am doing so right now. THANKS!! will update.

Thanks! We are away from home now so she's resting. When I caught her up for this last doctoring, I actually interrupted one very messy, sunny dust bath lol. So I feel like her spirits are pretty darn good.

If we are home early enough I plan to soak her hind end in some stout salt water and reapply honey.
